[He's not that mean. Stefan'll keep his laughing to a minimum, he promises, especially since he wants to get this apple gel just right.

So he pulls out the sample, some of the base materials, and his current attempts. Those current attempts are in little paper cups, and they're almost perfect. Almost, because their consistency is more Jell-O than gel, and well? The color isn't anywhere near right.]

This is it. I've got my current recipe here [which he also pulls out], so where exactly do you think I'm off?

[...Well. He's certainly seen worse attempts...? Still, it's probably lucky that Stefan can't see the look on his face.

He picks up one of the cups, lifting it to his nose for a sniff. Well, the flavour is obviously off as Stefan had mentioned, and he can tell the composition isn't quite right, but still. Not bad for a first attempt.

Mikleo reaches out to take the recipe, reading it over. SO MANY FLOATING THINGS.]

I'm not sure what some of these ingredients are... we might have different names for them on my world. Can you set them up on the table? This'll likely take some trial and error.

I wouldn't say it's that I like it. I don't have a preference, really; I just think it'd be interesting to see what it looks like on you. [Sorey crosses his ankles and leans over to watch Mikleo work. Usually he gets chased out of the kitchen because he gets impatient and annoying. Rose encourages him, it's her fault.]

[nerdeology]

[Huh.

Mikleo's shoulders relax, and he pushes it to the back of his mind, focusing on the cooking again. It's not like Sorey's opinion is the be-all end-all of his appearance decisions, but he does like to look good. He can admit he can be a little bit vain sometimes. And Sorey's opinion is the one that matters the most to him.

He can't begrudge curiosity, anyway.]

Well, what about you? The armatus gives you quite the ponytail. Ever wanted to grow it out?

[monolike]

Hahaha! No, I don't think so. [Sorey scratches at his nose a little sheepishly.] I wouldn't look good.

[nerdeology]

Don't be ridiculous. You look fine with it.

[monolike]

It's all right short, yeah, but my hair isn't like yours, or like Lailah's or Zaveid's. It'd look silly. [One of the problems with growing up around people who you believe are so much more beautiful than you; you don't value your own looks.]

[nerdeology]

[Mikleo snorts.]

You think Zaveid's hair doesn't look silly? It ought to have birds living in all of those tangles.

[Beautiful the seraphim may be, but they're not automatically better than humans in the looks department.]

[At this point, floating apple gel attempts aren't the strangest thing he's seen this week. Stefan does, however, do a brief double-take. Not the strangest thing, but also not entirely normal.

Y'Allah, sometimes he wonders how he got here.] Sure. Just give me a second.

[Which is literally all Stefan needs. In the blink of an eye, he's set up every ingredient he's used, along with the proper equipment needed to measure and mix them together. Rolling up his sleeves, he peers back at the recipe in Mikleo's hand.]

It's sorted out by the order I used it in. So the first on your left is the first on the ingredient list too.

[Okay, hold on, what. Stefan might not be able to see the dumbfounded expression on Mikleo's face, but it is absolutely there.]

What- how? That was so fast!

[stefanged]

Magic. [Stefan grins, turning to face Mikleo (the lab coat's helping in that regard).] You're not exactly the only non-human around here, you know.

[His speed was absolutely reckless behavior, but sometimes, Stefan can't quite help himself.]

[...H...uh.]

May I ask what you are, then...?

[monolike]

Yeah, but that works for him. He's a wind seraph!

[nerdeology]

Well, your hair works for you because you're you. The texture's really nice, and the colour fits your body and skin tone perfectly. It creates a good contrast with your eye colour as well. If your hair was longer it would just mean more of a good thing.

[MATTER-OF-FACTLY, like all of what he says is 100% obvious to anyone.]

[Oh. Right. People usually ask that, and at this point, Stefan can't say he's a superhero or a Pretty Cure. Literally no one's heard of them.]

Technically? Vampire, but uh... try not to tell the rest of the Fleet.

[nerdeology]

[Vampire... vampire... hmm...]

I'm afraid I don't know what that is.

[stefanged]

You don't? [Hm.] Do you know what what werewolves or witches are?

[nerdeology]

Witches... that's familiar. I might've read about them in a book once. But I've fought with a werewolf hellion before.

[monolike]

"It's perfect because I'm me," huh? [Warmth spreads from his chest to his fingers and toes and Sorey smiles over at Mikleo.] All right. Maybe I'll grow my hair out. You can do yours too, we can try it together.

[nerdeology]

Hah, alright.

[He suspects that this experiment will last, like, a month or two at most. They'll either forget about it or it'll becoming irritatingly unmanageable and they'll both cut it short again. Growing hair is such a chore when it's just long enough to irritate his neck but too short to tie back, after all...

Anyway. Enough time has passed that the cookies are done, so he ducks down and rescues them from the oven. That same sweet scent from before is even stronger now, making the entire kitchen smell like pumpkin pie. He sets the tray on the stovetop, satisfied, and goes back to his mixing bowl. Time for the strawberry flavouring!

Okay, well... where I come from, they're all real. A witch is someone who can cast magic. A werewolf's someone who transforms into a wolf during the full moon, and a vampire's someone who's immortal.

[He shouldn't gloss over the "drinks blood to live" part, but every time he does, he's usually met with fear and derision.]

I don't usually tell people what I am, though.

[nerdeology]

The pool of people I could tell is quite small, for obvious reasons.

[Hard to share secrets when people can't see or hear you.]

Regardless, I won't spread it around. But if it happens to come up with Sorey, I won't lie, either. I don't keep secrets from him.

[Sorey could probably tell if he was hiding it, anyway, so there'd be no sense in trying.]

Well, Sorey's also not in the business of killing vampires.

[The crux of why he doesn't tell people, honestly.]

Or at least, if he is, he hasn't told me.

Sorey's not in the business of killing anyone. A Shepherd's duty is to purify, not slay.

Huh. [That's honestly the first Stefan's heard of it.] I'll keep that in mind.

Unfortunately for me, some people are and I've been on the receiving end more than a few times.
